The Provincial Director of Territorial Development and Environment of Niassa, Celestina Teófilo, representing the Governor of Niassa Province, Elina Judite Massengele, highlighted the importance of integrating biodiversity into the agricultural sector during the opening of the workshop on "Production Systems Approach for Integrating Biodiversity into the Agricultural Sector: Linking Local and National Levels," also known as FARSYMABI.

Organized by the Rural Environment Observatory (OMR), the event, held in the city of Lichinga, focused on the Chipanje Chetu conservation area as a case study.

Representing the Governor, Teófilo emphasized that the project has the potential to improve biodiversity management and conservation techniques, while also fostering job creation and the sustainable development of income-generating activities.

"There is a need to strengthen the capacities of local structures and promote decentralization. The sustainable management of natural resources is essential for sustainable development and critical for meeting the needs of future generations, in line with the Government's Five-Year Plan," she stated during the event.

The workshop also aimed to discuss preliminary research data on integrating biodiversity into agriculture, addressing the connection between local and national levels and the challenges related to #poverty, #food_security, and #biodiversity conservation.
